Electronic sports are the same as competitive gaming, cyber sports, cyber athletics (used by the CPL) and V-Sports
Some people even don't know that Cyber sport exists and those who know don't know what it means.
The development of science and technology has made a huge contradiction to all spheres of life. And sport is not an exception from the rule. It is rather developed and is popular all over the world. Besides, it is popular among all age categories. And you may see a man of 40 years competing with a boy of 12 years.
So what is Cyber sport?
Cyber sport is sport's competitions in video and computer games. The history of Cyber sport starts with the spread of the game Quake, which was played among people thanks to LAN and the internet. The first League of cyber sportsmen appeared in USA – The CPL thanks to popularity of this game in 1997.
The most popular computer games that are played all over the world and that are the base of cyber sport are Quake, Quake II, Quake III Arena, Quake 4, Counter-Strike, Unreal Tournament, UT2003, UT2004, UT3, War craft III, War hammer 40,000, Star Craft, Call of Duty 2, Call of Duty 4, FIFA, Pro Evolution Soccer, Need For Speed, Battlefield.
Competitions in electronic sports are held all over the world even on international level: World Cyber Games, The CPL, WEG, ESWC, ECG, and ACON5. The most important is World Cyber Game that is analogue of Olympic Games.
First time WCG were held in Southern Korea that was the creator of electronic sports and the leader of the world competitions in Star craft. From that time competitions are held every year in all countries of the world.
These competitions are held in special places where audience can watch the players that sit in specially equipped places with computers and their battle is showed in the huge screen. These competitions are held at the stadiums in Southern Korea because of the great number of the audience. Less important competitions are held in computer clubs.
It is possible to earn a great sum of money thanks to this sport. The prise of some competitions may be 1 million dollars and even more. The greatest prise was won by a guy with a nickname Fatality, who got 150 000$. The payments of Korean Star Craft player are from 20 000$ to 50 000 – 600 000$.
But discussions about this sport are not stopped till now. Some people think that it shouldn't be considered the real sport. And some of their arguments are really rational. Cyber sport doesn't need any physical exercises, but only the computer knowledge. But on the other hand chess doesn't require any physical exercises too. Besides, electronic sport is based on elaboration of strategy, computer knowledge and smartness of the player.
