The main equipment of tennis are net, racket and a ball.
Racket is used to send a ball to the opposite side. They are made of wood with the use of other materials.

The creator of tennis is unknown. There are a lot of theories that pretend to tell us about its history. According to the most famous version, Walten Wingfield was the creator of this game. He created a game to entertain guests during parties in his house. And in 1873 he published first rules of the game. He used royal tennis as a base for his game that had already been very popular. Royal tennis first appeared in France in 12th century.
The terms used in tennis appeared in the same period of time, because Wingfield borrowed some terms from the real-tennis.
From the year 1920 professional tennis player earned money by playing games for audience that paid for the right to watch the game. During 40 year professional and amateur tennis were strictly separated from each other. When a player gets to the professional level, he can't participate in amateur tournaments any more. But in 1967 LTA decided to give the equal rights to both professional players and amateurs.
First this game was especially popular in English speaking countries, especially in Australia, Great Britain, and the USA. But it was also popular in France.
The most famous and the most important Championships held in the world are Wimbledon championships, the USA Open Championship, Australian Open, and France Open. These four Championships are called Grand Slam tournaments. The greatest achievement of a tennis player is considered to win all four tournaments during one season. Rafael Nadal has gained to do that.
